Pakistan, Afghanistan agree to 48-hour ceasefire

Pakistan and Afghanistan have declared a 48-hour ceasefire, the Pakistani Foreign Office announced on Wednesday.

According to the FO, a 48-hour ceasefire has been declared between the Pakistani government and the Afghan Taliban government for the next 48 hours starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday evening, following a request from the Taliban through mutual consent.

During this time, the two sides will engage in a good faith attempt to reach a positive conclusion to this issue through constructive talks. Another clash occurred on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Kabul argues that Pakistani forces killed at least 12 Afghan civilians in an attack. The Pakistani army, on the other hand, claims that they killed 15 to 20 Taliban soldiers in their assaults. Taliban fighters attacked Pakistani troops in several hilly regions along the northern Afghan border on Sunday. In total, 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed.
