Japan mourns Khaleda Zia’s death

Japan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, recalling her contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

In a condolence message on Tuesday, Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi said, “We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Her Excellency Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Honorable Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

He said, Japan expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Begum Khaleda Zia, BNP leaders and activists, and the government and people of Bangladesh.

Recalling her role in bilateral relations, the ambassador said, “Her Excellency Begum Khaleda Zia visited Japan twice during her tenure as Prime Minister, which has made significant contributions to strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between our two countries.”

He expressed the sincere gratitude of the Japanese government for Begum Khaleda Zia’s dedicated efforts and significant contributions.

In his condolence message, he prayed for the peace of his departed soul.
