Italy fines Apple nearly 100 million euros

Italy has fined US technology giant Apple nearly 100 million euros.
Italian authorities reported this information on Monday.
Apple has been fined 98 million euros ($115 million) for abusing its dominant position in the mobile app sector.
The Italian competition authority AGCM said in a statement that Apple had violated privacy rules for third-party developers.
According to the statement, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) rules have been imposed unilaterally and are harming the interests of Apple’s commercial partners.
Earlier this year, French antitrust authorities fined Apple 150 million euros for violating app tracking privacy.
Other authorities in Europe have also launched similar investigations into the technology, which Apple has been promoting as a privacy protection.
The feature, introduced by Apple in 2021, requires apps to obtain user consent through a pop-up window before tracking their activity on other apps and websites.
